Segovia: which mushroom permit you need and how much it costs
In Segovia, one permit covers both regulated areas. We explain how much it costs in 2026, who gets a discount and why the Valsaín forests need a separate permit.

On this page
If you are heading to Segovia to pick mushrooms, find out the essentials before you go: which permit you will be picking under. It determines how much you pay and where you can pick. The general rules of Castilla y León are the same here as in our guide to Soria, so below we cover only what is different in Segovia: which permit to buy, how much it costs, who gets a discount and why the Valsaín forests have their own rules.
One permit covers both areas
In the regulated forests of Segovia you need a Micocyl permit, and one permit covers both areas. A regulated area is called an acotado in Spanish: land where picking is allowed only with a permit. There are two areas that sell permits through the regional portal: “Montes de Segovia” (SG-50002) and “Montes de la Comunidad de Castilla y León en Segovia” (SG-50005). Their rates are identical and each accepts the other's permits, so you do not need to buy a second one 1.
Outside the regulated areas, the region's general rules apply, as in Soria. A sign on site will tell you where the open forest ends and the regulated area begins.
How much a permit costs: from €5 a day for visitors
The 2026 season runs until 31 December 2026. Visitors pay the general rate. Locals and residents of the province pay less, but the discount applies only to the season permit 14.
| Who | One day | Two days | Season |
|---|---|---|---|
| General rate, recreational (up to 5 kg a day) | €5 | €8 | €40 |
| General rate, commercial (up to 50 kg a day) | not offered | not offered | €250 |
| Local, recreational | — | — | €5 |
| Linked (vinculado), recreational | — | — | €15 |
Most visitors need the first row: the recreational permit, meaning picking for your own use. The commercial permit is sold only for the season and cannot be bought for a single day 1.
The discount is for locals and residents of the province
The €5 season permit is for locals. A local is someone registered as a resident in one of the area's municipalities at least 6 months before 1 October 2026. These include, for example, Navafría, El Espinar, Riaza, Prádena and Ayllón. The full list is in the area's leaflet, so check it against your address 2.
The €15 season permit is for linked people (vinculado). Firstly, a linked person is someone who owns property in one of the area's municipalities, provided they can prove it with a receipt for a municipal tax or charge in their name (IBI, water, etc.) covering more than a year. Secondly, it is anyone registered as a resident in a municipality of the province of Segovia. Put simply, any resident of the province pays no more than €15 for the season 2.
Everyone who picks needs a permit, except children under 14
Everyone who goes out with a basket needs a permit, including people who are just accompanying others. Children under 14 can pick without a permit, but only together with an adult who has one 3.
The permit is personal and cannot be passed on to someone else. If the forest rangers ask, you show it together with an ID document: a DNI or equivalent, and visitors from another country need a passport 3.
Where to buy a permit and how to check whether you need one in your forest
You can buy a permit on the micocyl.es website or on the Micología CyL permit portal. The Micocyl map viewer shows whether a permit is needed in a particular forest 34.
The regulated zones of Castilla y León are also on our map: see Segovia on the map or the whole region on the regional map. But this layer is compiled from the register and may lag behind. If our map and the Micocyl viewer disagree, trust the viewer.
On the forecast map and in the weekend forecast, MicoRadar shows the model's calculation based on the weather. The model estimates conditions, but it does not permit picking and does not override the area's rules.
In Valsaín, the Micocyl permit is not valid
The Valsaín forests have their own permit. This refers to the Matas and Pinar de Valsaín in the municipality of Real Sitio de San Ildefonso. The Micocyl permit is not valid there, not even the season one. The permit for Valsaín is arranged through the national parks' central booking system at reservasparquesnacionales.es 5.
If you are registered as a resident outside the province of Segovia, only a permit for 1 day or for 2 consecutive days is available to you, and you choose the dates. The limit is up to 5 kg a day. Children under 14 pick without a permit here too, but together with an adult who has one. The area “Umbría de Siete Picos”, between Camino Schmid, the Telégrafo stream and the Siete Picos ridge, is excluded from picking 5.
Prices are trickier: all we know about them comes from a 2017 leaflet. Back then a day cost €10 and two consecutive days cost €15. Check the current price when you book 5.
There are also differences on the ground. The minimum cap size is 4 cm for Boletus and 2 cm for all other species. You may enter the forest only on foot, and selling mushrooms inside the Valsaín forests is not allowed. You must carry your permit, on paper or on your phone, and a document proving your identity and place of residence: a DNI, a certificate of residence or equivalent 6.
If you feel unwell after eating mushrooms, call 112
If you feel unwell after eating wild mushrooms, call 112. The section on poisonous mushrooms explains why we do not help identify mushrooms.
Before you go
- Check on the Micocyl viewer whether your forest is part of a regulated area.
- Buy a permit on micocyl.es or on the Micología CyL portal: for one day, for two days or for the season.
- If you are registered as a resident in the province or own property there, get the season permit at the reduced rate.
- Get a permit for every adult with a basket.
- Put an ID document in your pocket: a DNI or equivalent, and a passport if you are visiting from another country.
- If you are going to Valsaín, arrange a separate permit through the national parks booking system and check the price there.

What our model says is a forecast, not an observation. No mushroom can be safely identified from a photo or an app; if in any doubt, do not eat it. If anyone feels unwell after eating wild mushrooms, call 112.
